The 43-year-old at the center of the case involving the murder of the infant who was found frozen and dead inside a suitcase in an apartment in Kypseli has a dark past.

According to reports, in April 2020, the man was placed in pre-trial detention in connection with a pimping/procuring case involving a woman from Germany.

According to the woman’s complaint to the authorities at the time, she met the 43-year-old through social media, the two developed a relationship, and she decided to come to Greece. That was when her nightmare allegedly began. She said that the man kept her in an apartment against her will and wanted to force her into prostitution.

The 43-year-old was ultimately remanded in custody in connection with the case and was released from prison in October 2020, reportedly possibly because of a lack of evidence.

Now, the same man is once again under investigation by the authorities in connection with the horrific case involving the brutal murder of the infant.

The murder was uncovered during a forensic examination, which found at least 10 injuries on the baby’s back. According to reports, the injuries were inflicted with a knife.

Following the forensic findings, the Greek police (ELAS) are preparing a criminal case for homicide against those arrested at the apartment in Kypseli.

As part of the investigation, the questioning of the suspects is due to begin today, while the examination of the three minor children who were in the home — a 15-year-old girl and two boys aged 9 and 12 — remains pending. They will be interviewed under the procedure provided by the “Child’s House,” in the presence of specialist child psychologists.

The infant killed in Kypseli was a 9-month-old boy

According to the forensic examiner, the infant found frozen and dead inside a suitcase in the Kypseli apartment was a boy between 8 and 9 months old. However, authorities have so far been unable to establish exactly when he was murdered.

ELAS spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou said on Tuesday morning: “None of those arrested has explained the circumstances in which the infant was found, while the family says that he was born in a maternity hospital, without providing any further details.”

The 43-year-old’s chilling statements

Attempting to explain what happened, the 43-year-old Greek man who has been arrested — for the time being, on a felony charge involving drug trafficking and a misdemeanor for failing to report the discovery of a dead person — reportedly told police, among other things, that the baby cried constantly and spoke about his wife’s condition.

At the same time, he claimed that the hospital had switched their baby and given them another infant, whom he described as “possessed by Satan.”

“The baby cried all the time, and my wife was depressed. They switched our baby at the maternity hospital and gave us another one who was possessed by Satan, and as soon as he died, our house became calm,” he reportedly told police.

Questions surrounding sexually transmitted infections among the children

It is recalled that two of the children found in the apartment — the 15-year-old girl, who is pregnant, as well as the 38-year-old German woman and the 9-year-old boy — were found to have sexually transmitted infections. Ms. Dimoglidou said that “an investigation is being conducted into how they contracted these infections.”

Police sources said that suitcases containing sexual items were also found in the Kypseli apartment. The three children had previously been taken to a children’s hospital in 2025, after they were found wandering alone and unaccompanied in the street.
