A total of 36 countries will take part in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, according to the official list released by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) on Wednesday, 28 October.
The 71st edition of the competition will be held in Burgas, Bulgaria, from 11 to 15 May 2027, with one more participating country than in 2026.
Two developments stand out in the line-up: Canada will make its Eurovision debut, while North Macedonia will return after a four-year absence.
Canada to make historic Eurovision debut
Canada’s participation marks a significant development for the competition and follows the admission of its public broadcaster, CBC/Radio-Canada, as a full member of the EBU in July 2026.
The move will allow Canada to compete in Eurovision for the first time, extending the contest’s geographical reach beyond its traditional participating nations.
North Macedonia, meanwhile, will return to the competition after four years away.
Spain and Slovenia yet to confirm participation
The final participation decisions of Spain and Slovenia remain pending.
Their respective public broadcasters, RTVE and RTVSLO, have until December to confirm whether they will take part in the 2027 contest.
Hungary’s position appears to be different, with the country no longer listed as a potential returning participant.
Although Hungary had initially been granted an extension until December because of the restructuring of its public broadcaster, time constraints now appear to have ruled out its participation in 2027.
All countries that competed in the 2026 contest in Vienna are expected to return, with the sole exception of Czechia, which has withdrawn for financial reasons.
Semi-final draw scheduled for January
The allocation draw, which will determine which of the two semi-finals each participating country will compete in, is scheduled to take place in Burgas in January 2027.
The competition itself will run from 11 to 15 May, with Bulgaria hosting the 71st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.
