23 killed at neurological hospital fire in Russia

A wire malfunction caused the fire

At least 23 people were killed and two dozen injured during a fire at a neurological hospital in Russia’s central Voronezh region. One of the two wooden structures of the neurological hospital, housing 70 patients and at least four medical staff, was destroyed by the blaze while the roof of the single-story 600-sq.-meter facility caved in.

29 of the patients were reportedly bedridden or had limited mobility so that only 57 patients could be evacuated from the building.  Those who suffered no injuries were transfered to the hospital’s second unit that was not damaged from the fire.

After an investigation, authorities found that a wiring malfunction had been to blame for the hospital’s electrical system.
