264 million Euros from TV licences to go to people in need: Tsipras

Tsipras says TV licence procedures a clear message that conflict of interest has ended

Greek PM Alexis Tsipras said the message sent by the completion of TV licence tender procedure was that an era of lawlessness and impunity in the media landscape has come to end. Tsipras, who is scheduled to officially open a portion of the Athens-Corinth national highway, underlined that the 264 million Euros that will enter into the state coffers from the licences would be earmarked for alleviating the less privileged groups in the country. ’The governments will no longer play games with tricks to favour friends and cronies in order to award them public projects’, Tsipras said. ‘I promise that every Euro of the money raised through the tender will be directed to emergency actions for the support of underprivileged groups and for the support of the Greek society that needs it’, the Greek PM stated. Tsipras said that the law will apply to all, adding that his government would defend the public interest.
