29 refugees rescued in the sea region of Lefkada

The captain is a member of a people smuggling ring and abandoned the boat leaving it adrift

Greek Coast Guard located and rescued twenty nine migrants and refugees who were packed on a boat adrift in the sea region west of the Ionian island of Lefkada.

Among the rescued refugees were two children. 17 of the people have already been transferred to Athens and  the rest of them will soon be transferred, too.

According to police, the captain is a member of a people smuggling ring and abandoned the boat leaving it adrift with 29 people on board.

The place where the boat set sail is not yet known, but, according to authorities the migrants and refugees destination was Italy.
