The government ensured five million euro for the control of Bluetongue disease that has occurred in sheep flocks in Lakonia, Messinia and Arcadia, Greece. It was announced this afternoon in the Peloponnese region after a meeting ,by the district commissioner Mr. Petros Tatoulis.
The meeting was very informative about the real dimensions of the problem. The problem was examined in detail and all aspects of ways of handling it, were discussed.
Mr. Tatoulis mentioned to the Regional Governor and the Regional Vice Governor, among others, that he has informed the political leadership of ministries, which understood the problem and signed a joint ministerial decision. Them being, the Ministers of Agriculture Mr. Giorgos Karasmanis and Deputy Finance Minister Mr. Christos Staikouras, which secured five million euros as compensation for deceased animals, strengthening the animal food market and buying spray medicines for stable facilities.
The Regional Governor also announced that the staffing of the Veterinary Services of the Region, has also been ensured , which despite the huge shortage of manpower, he said, they managed to undertake a huge project and asked farmers to be in constant communication with them in order to provide better information and direct approach of interceptions.
