SYRIZA European Parliament Member (MEP) Nikos Chountis is among the 53 SYRIZA members of the party’s Central Committee, who  tendered their resignation en-masse, Wednesday. According to sources, the 53 members are all affiliated to Panayiotis Lafazanis’s Left Platform. In their letter of resignation they accuse the government of calling elections without consulting the party’s Central Committee, while they stress that the developments will go down as the darkest moments in the history of the left in Greece. “As members of the Central Committee we cannot serve a new memorandum-as we did not for the previous ones-that will be the final blow to an already crushed people”, they write in their letter.
