At least 9 people were killed and 760 injured in Japan, following the new powerful 7 magnitude earthquake that hit the island of Kiusu, according to Japanese state television. The Kyodo news agency reported that over 470 people were taken to hospital for injuries, while it said that at least 200,000 houses were left without electricity in the Kumamoto prefecture. According to the USGS, the earthquake centre was a kilometre away from the capital of the region at 10 km depth.
