Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann expressed the view that the decisions reached by the EU leaders during Wednesday’s emergency meeting in Brussels on the refugee-migrant crisis, could be the starting point of the revision of the Dublin 2 Accord, which provides that the first country refugees enter is solely responsible for processing their asylum applications. During an interview on Austrian state radio, Thursday Faymann said he was satisfied with the results of Wednesday’s EU Summit meeting, underlining that it was quite clear that the Dublin 2 Accord was dysfunctional and that a better approach could be sought based on Wednesday’s decisions. The Austrian politician warned would-be refugees and migrants of immediate deportation from Austria, if they had failed to follow the proper identification and registration procedures at the first countries of entry into the EU. To avoid such incidents he stressed that an agreement for returning refugees to their country of origin was necessary, while setting up ‘Hot Spots’ for identification and processing gave those eligible for refugee status a better chance. Faymann said that the decision to relocate 120,000 refugees to other EU member-states will not suffice for very long as a new tide of refugees and economic migrants are expected to cross into Europe over the next 2 years.
