Newly appointed UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, will visit Greece for the first time on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Mr. Grandi will visit the Greek island of Lesvos to meet with the local authorities, the Coast Guard, the European Union agencies, NGOs and volunteer groups. Then he will travel to Athens to meet with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, and ministers dealing with the refugee issue. He will also visit refugee hosting areas and apartments, which have been included in the EU and UNHCR renting program.
His visit will be concluded with a press conference on Wednesday, which will be held at the offices of the Journalists’ Union of Athens Daily Newspapers (ESIEA).
The High Commissioner will be accompanied by the Director of the Regional Office for Europe of UNHCR and Regional Coordinator for Refugee Crisis Vincent Cochetel.
