After four days of almost non-stop rain, several areas in Paris are under red alert.

The River Seine has overflowed its banks in several places swamping roads and forcing people out of their homes.

Incessant rain led to floods in central and northern France, with the town of Nemours, southeast of the capital, being worst hit and authorities having ordered the evacuation of around 3,000 people, as euronews reports.

In Paris, City Hall closed roads along the Seine from the Left Bank in the east to the Eiffel Tower in the west, as river levels rose at least 4.3 meters.

Meteorologists say the waters are expected to keep rising for days.
