Little Zoe, an orphan brown bear cub that was found last April wandering alone near the village of Avghi, northwestern Greece, has won the battle for her life and will soon be transferred to a big fenced forest area.
According to “Arcturos”, a Greek non-governmental organization seeking to enhance biodiversity and sustainability in the Greek rural areas, the place that will host the little bear is ready and Zoe has been prepared for the upcoming procedure. She eats fruit and nuts, leaves and chicory.
“Zoe that already weighs more than 10 kg avoids the caretakers, is very happy and plays all the time with the pool water and with her stuffed toy bear,” Panos Stefanou, member of Arcturos, told ANA-MPA.
The little bear will no longer have any contact with humans in order to consider them a different species.
At the end of the year, Stefanou said, “a lair will be constructed in the forest for Zoe to hibernate and when she wakes up in spring she will be free in the natural environment”.
