Scientists say that the lake was once a large cave filled with numerous hot sprints. The high temperature and moisture caused the roof to collapse, creating Vouliagmeni Lake, that looks like a volcanic crater filled with emerald green water. The healing properties of the lake are famous with claims that it can cure eczema, neuralgia, lumbago, headaches and more. But it’s not just those that need muscular relief that come to take advantage of the lake’s minerals such as potassium, natrium, lithium, ammonium, calcium, ferrum, chloride, iodine and others. The garra rufa fish, a recent addition, draw young and old who enjoy a tickly full-body fish spa for as long as they care to stand still. Many other activities are also on offer, such as scuba diving and yoga. Theater performances and functions at night have made the lake, once a place for old people with ailments, a very hip and happening place to be. The lake is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. with general admission at 9 euros (weekdays) and 10 euros (weekends) and 6 euros for children with special rates for families and pre-bought packages.
