US Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross met Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Friday afternoon.

The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Thessaloniki, with the participation of the Minister of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information, Nikos Pappas, the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Dimitris Liakos and the US Ambassador, Geoffrey Pyatt. Mr. Tsipras will also meet with officials from major US companies, who are participating in the 83rd Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), in which the honored country is the United States.

In their statements to the cameras, Mr. Tsipras welcomed the US Secretary of State in Greece and Thessaloniki – “this beautiful city”, as he said. He also spoke of leaving the memorandum and the new era for Greece, as well as of the importance for the country of the fact that the USA is the honored country in the 83rd TIF, especially in the field of economy and investment. It also highlighted the historical relations between the two countries.

For his part, Wilbur Ross stated that a new page is opening for Greece and the US will stand by its side, stressing that things are better for the country and that he is happy about it. He also refered to the upcoming visit of the Greek PM in New York at the end of September, where he will address the UN General Assembly.
