Among the leaders of the “populist parties ” that the newspaper presents is the president of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, which is characterised as “Wutfänger”, which can be interpreted as a “collector of wrath”.
The article refers that this is how he is called in Greece, because “during the crisis he managed to increase the percentage of votes of SYRIZA so much that it reached the government’s percentage.”
Along with Mr Tsipras, the article presents the leader of the National Front in France, Marine Le Pen , the far-right Dutch Geert Wilders, the British nationalist Nigel Farage, the Swedish like-minded Jimmie Akesson and the Italian populist Beppe Grillo .
It is clarified, though, that Mr Tsipras is not “a eurosceptic” but he persistently criticizes the conditions under which austerity measures and reforms have been imposed on Greece.
Moreover, it is mentioned that the objective of Alexis Tsipras “is to change the policy in the euro zone towards a New Deal in favour of growth ” and that ” requires “debt haircut” for the countries of South Europe”.
Tsipras considers symbolic and flattering the award of being the head candidate in the European elections, but his real goal is to become the Prime Minister of Greece, as it is noted in the article.
