Tino Sehgal exhibition in the Roman Agora of Athens, Greece

The exhibition marks the first time a major work of Sehgal’s will be presented outdoors

Newsroom September 25 01:10

NEON will present an exhibition of works by Tino Sehgal in and around the Roman Agora in Athens from 25 September to 28 October 2014.

The exhibition, produced by Asad Raza, marks the first time a major work of Sehgal’s will be presented outdoors.

This exhibition arises from the initiative to mount Sehgal’s works in the ancient sites of Athens and NEON’s ongoing  commitment to activating public spaces and enhancing public life throughout the city of Athens.

It will take place in the Roman Agora and in an adjacent indoor location and will operate every day from 8:00 – 20:00. The installations to be exhibited are constructed of choreography, song, and peripatetic philosophical conversation.

The UK newspaper The Guardian refers also to Tino Sehgal’s exhibition with the journalist asking ” How do you keep ancient Greek civilisation alive in the 21st-century?”

“Tino Sehgal’s new show – or event, or whatever this artist of social interaction’s work ought to be called – is at the Roman agora in Athens. The Berlin-based artist Sehgal has previously got people interacting in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern and was shortlisted for the Turner prize. Now he’s bringing his state-of-the-art actions to the ancient city whose most famous work of art, up to now, was the 5th-century BC Parthenon and its missing sculptures” the article mentions.
