A Greek woman working as a researcher and professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Ohio State University created a breath test for the coronavirus.
Pelagia-Irene Gouma is the creator of the pioneering test, which diagnoses coronavirus and explained, speaking in the main news bulletin of ALPHA, how the new “weapon” of science works against the pandemic.
“This is a portable device with special sensors, in which we exhale once in the mouth and within 15 seconds we have the result,” she explained. In fact, she stated that the success rate in the first tests was of the order of 88%.
“We have applied to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and we are waiting for a response soon so that we can market the devices to the public health market,” said the Greek scientist.
