Maria Sakkari withdrew from the Sydney Tennis Classic, which will take place from January 8 to 15, and is now going straight to the Australian Open.

The Greek, ranked number 6 in the world, had participated in the ATP500 tournament in 2017 and 2018, but as was the case in the last three years she will not take part this year. The reason for her pulling out are not clear. Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko will take her spot in the tournament.
