Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, said an assassination attempt against Volodymyr Zelensky by Chechens has been foiled.
An “elite group” of Chechens had arrived in Kyiv to assassinate the Ukrainian president.
Mr. Danilov said the group split in two and one was eliminated while the other has been contained by Ukrainian forces.
It was not clear, however, how close they got to President Zelensky.

According to US intelligence, one of Russia’s objectives is to “decapitate” the Ukrainian government by assassinating its leadership.
Mr Zelensky had stated that the “enemy has marked me as target number one”.
