Infectious Committee recommends Covid-19 measures remain until May 1

The numbers have stabilised

Newsroom March 30 05:16

The Greek Infectious Disease Committee has recommended that Covid-19 measures should not be lifted until May 1.
This means that Greeks will celebrate Easter with the current restrictions in place including limited access to specific (closed) venues, with vaccination certificates on hand, and of course, masks where they are mandatory.

Earlier today, the professor of Pulmonology, Nikos Tzanakis, speaking to MEGA, had stressed that “we have a rise of the Omicron 2 variant and some areas have been completely overwhelmed, for example, Crete is ahead by 80%. It is a variant that is impervious to vaccines, or previous disease immunity, however without burdening those who are already ill. This mutation affects more than 15% of those over 65 years of age. There are fears that the hard indicators will worsen in the coming days, however, the death rate is stabilising. Yesterday we saw an increase in intubated about 11 extra intubated, after a week of leveling of intubated, while we are in a period of de-escalation,” he said.
