Russia will not use nuclear weapons in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexei Zaychev said on Friday.

According to Reuters, Zaychev told reporters that the use of nuclear weapons by Russia – a scenario that has been openly discussed by Western officials lately – could not be applied to what Moscow calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine.

CIA Director William Burns said on April 14 that, given the defeats suffered by the Russian army in Ukraine, “none of us can take lightly the threat of resorting to tactical nuclear weapons or (nuclear weapons) of low power”.
