Man jumps off bridge in Athens after setting himself ablaze

The man died immediately after his jump

An unidentified man set himself on fire before jumping to his death from the footbridge of Kifissos in Attica in the Rentis district.

According to eyewitness accounts, the motorist believed to be in his 40s, allegedly set himself on fire and plunged into the void. Police sources report that the man, being in a state of amok, according to the testimonies of passing drivers, got out of his car which was in the left lane of traffic, set his body ablaze, before jumping into the bed of Kifissos, from a height of at least 15-20 metres.

The man reportedly died immediately. The police are searching his car in order to find his personal information and notify his next of kin ad for clues about the reasons for his action.

The incident caused a temporary traffic jam.
