At least five person was killed and other people were injured or fled the scene of a powerful explosion on a busy pedestrian street in Constantinople’s central Taksim Square area.
State television TRT, as well as other media, showed videos of ambulances and police vehicles heading to the scene of the blast on Istiklal Street in the Beyoglu district.

According to the state-run Anatolu news agency, the cause of the explosion has not yet been determined, although it was most likely caused by a suicide bomber.
The nearby Casimbasa police station said all crews had gone to the scene of the explosion, without releasing further details.
