For a driver, there is nothing more nightmarish than intense traffic and long-time traffic jams on the city streets. And as much as you think that Athens is one of the cities with the most traffic congestion, you would be wrong.
According to the 2022 Global Traffic Scorecard published by INRIX, a statistics and data analysis company, the city with the most hours lost annually on the roads per driver, is London. Chicago follows by a very small margin, while Paris, Boston, Bogotá, and Palermo are also in the top 10 list.
In the list below you can see the 15 worst cities worldwide. The list also records the overall annual ranking change including the period during the pandemic.
As for Europe, the three cities with the biggest burden are London (156 hours), Paris (138 hours), and Palermo (121 hours). Rounding out the top 10 are Lyon, Bucharest, and Bristol with 92, 91, and 91 hours, respectively.
Among the cities of countries with the least traffic problem are Brussels (98), Constantinople (89), Turin (86), Munich (72), Lisbon (64), and others. In Athens, a driver wastes 78 hours on the road every year, and less than half in Thessaloniki (32).
