Agia Paraskevi settlement in Menidi evacuated (videos)

Many houses have been burned

Newsroom August 23 10:55

The settlement of Agia Paraskevi in Menidi in north Attica is being evacuated due to the fire burning in Parnitha since yesterday, Tuesday (22/8).

Ground and air forces have been fighting the flames since yesterday to contain the large firefront that broke out in the area of Fili. Efforts are focused on preventing the fire from heading towards the ridge of Parnitha.

According to the fire brigade, the fire that broke out at noon on Tuesday in Fili on the outskirts of Parnitha is ongoing and is heading east towards Dardiza, Agios Ioannis the Russian, and Agia Paraskevi, while due to strong winds, there are many small flare-ups, with the fire being at 5 km from the casino.

Speaking to SKAI, the deputy head of Civil Protection, Vassilis Kokkalis, said that the main fronts in Fili are two, one in Dhekelia and the other in Agios Ioannis Rossos. He said that both fires have burned houses.

Speaking to SKAI 100.3 the deputy mayor of Menidi, Stathis Topalidis, made known that three nursing homes with 150 people were evacuated, which for the time being have been transferred to the town hall. He stressed that the evacuation was precautionary.
