12 people were injured by the fire that broke out this morning

Newsroom February 12 07:41

A major fire broke out this morning at Sweden’s largest amusement park in Gothenburg (west) this morning, with flames spreading to a new water park and 12 people slightly injured, authorities said.

Police said they evacuated a hotel and offices adjacent to the Liseberg amusement park, which is in the centre of Gothenburg, specifying that 12 people were taken to hospital having suffered minor injuries.

Images released by Swedish media show fireballs, flames and explosions destroying a water slide, while a cloud of black smoke rises over the city.

Swedish emergency services asked residents in the surrounding area “to stay inside their homes, close doors, windows and not to use air conditioners” because of the smoke.

It is too early to talk about a possible arson and to give an estimate of the amount of damage, police explained in the press release.
