The last act of the drama will be written on Wednesday with the funerals of the two women who died on Monday morning, waiting for the bus at a bus stop in the village of Patrida Veroia, when the car driven by a 64-year-old, entered the oncoming current and dragged them.
According to reports, the 68-year-old woman’s funeral will take place at 11:30 in the Church of Agia Paraskevi in Patrida, while the body of the young girl is expected to be transferred today to her place of origin, Albania, in order to be buried on Wednesday.
It is recalled that the traffic accident that took the lives of the two women occurred shortly before 10 am, with the 68-year-old woman being thrown by the collision about 25 meters away and losing her life instantly, while the 21-year-old woman was transferred seriously injured to the hospital of Veria, where she died a few hours later.
According to the 20-year-old’s uncle, the unfortunate girl was a nursing student and had come from Giannitsa to Patrida in order to see her aunt who was going to have an operation.
In fact, yesterday morning, her uncle suggested that they go to the hospital together to see his wife, but the 20-year-old girl left later to go by bus. In the end, she never made it and fatality occurred.
Shocking are the testimonies of local residents about the tragic incident. “We came down and saw what happened. There was a loud noise, we say was there an earthquake?
There are no words, what to say. We lost a young neighbor. I saw the car in my yard and the woman was thrown 25 meters. I didn’t see the girl at all.
They were both waiting to go to Veroia. The driver said he was dizzy,” said a resident, describing the shocking images he saw.
For his part, the president of the local community of Patrida Veroia, Yannis Sidiropoulos, said that “an IX car moving from Veroia to Naoussa left its course and hit a 68-year-old lady and a girl of 20 to 21 years old.

The little girl was lying under the stop, the lady was thrown 24 meters away. The lady died instantly, the young girl later passed away in hospital. The driver said he lost consciousness.”
Friends and classmates of the 20-year-old were at the scene, who, visibly shocked by the incident and with words barely coming out of their mouths, said: “The girl was from Giannitsa, she was waiting here at the bus stop to go to the hospital to see her aunt. She was studying nursing.”
The 64-year-old driver, who allegedly claimed that he was unwell and because of this he lost control of the car, causing it to pass into oncoming traffic and cause the accident, was arrested, but was released on the oral order of the Public Prosecutor, while he is being treated for minor injuries at the Veria hospital.
