The mercury will remain in the red today, Wednesday, May 22, 2024, since the temperature is expected to reach 35 degrees Celsius again locally, while there will be a gradual retreat of African dust.
According to Klearchos Marousakis, a northwest wind from the west is entering today to improve the situation first in the west and north and from tomorrow in the rest of the regions.
“Increased temperatures are expected today in Thessaly, Boeotia, eastern southeastern Peloponnese, inland parts of Crete and the eastern southeastern Aegean. There will limit the action of the heat wave and from Thursday we now go to good clarity of the atmosphere, “says the Open meteorologist in his forecast.
Marousakis continued, saying that instability is coming, however, first in northern northeastern Greece and at the weekend, a “cold lake” will give instability in more generalized parts of our country.
Over the weekend the main feature of the weather will be instability, meaning showers and local thunderstorms, particularly on the mainland, with the mercury approaching more normal seasonal temperatures.
As EMY director Thodoris Kolydas explained in a post, “this weather is due to a detached low accompanied by a cold mass in the upper atmosphere. The low’s air masses will contrast with warmer and wetter air masses in the lower layers.
This contrast, and the dynamics of the low, will cause vertical clouds (Cu, CB) and thunderstorms will occur, especially during the warm daytime hours on the continents.”
He even posted a video describing the formation of the “cold lake” weather.
