“We don’t accept nudity,” stated Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during a speech, referring to Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, and her attire on a recent quasi-royal tour of the West African country. Senator Oluremi Tinubu appeared particularly annoyed during her address at the ‘Celebrating the Woman’ event, which also marked her husband President Bola Tinubu’s first anniversary in office.

As reported by The Sun, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in her speech recognizing the contributions of women, emphasized the differences between Nigerian and American cultural values, particularly in terms of appropriate dress and modesty.

“We’re not hosting a Met Gala. Nudity is prevalent, while the men are well-dressed. Consequently, something must be done. We do not accept nudity in our culture. This is not attractive. It’s not attractive at all… We don’t need to emulate American movie stars. They don’t know their roots. Why did Meghan come here looking for Africa? We know who we are. Don’t lose who you are,” the First Lady of Nigeria expressed in frustration.

However, the dress that reportedly infuriated Senator Oluremi Tinubu was likely a peach backless dress by designer Heidi Merrick. It is worth noting that the First Lady of Nigeria did not meet with the Sussexes during their tour promoting the Invictus Games, an initiative by Prince Harry.
