Last night, a candidate of “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) was attacked with a knife in Mannheim, south of Frankfurt.

The German politician, who is running in the local elections, is hospitalized.

Doctors stitched his wounds, and his condition is not considered serious, according to German media reports.

According to AfD spokesperson Emil Zeche, the victim is 62-year-old Heinrich Koch.

He was attacked by three individuals, one of whom stabbed him. The other two fled the scene, reports the German newspaper Bild.

In the same area, last Friday, a 25-year-old Afghan man injured a total of six people, including a police officer, at Mannheim’s central market square during an event organized by the anti-Islamist movement Pax Europa (BPE). The 29-year-old police officer succumbed to his injuries after fighting for his life for three days.

The German network N-TV provided detailed coverage of the attack that occurred yesterday.

The incident began when AfD candidate Heinrich Koch saw three men tearing down posters of his party, “Alternative for Germany,” in Mannheim square.

When he approached them, one of the men attacked him with a knife.

The police have arrested the attacker, but have not yet released any information about his identity.
