While the tension between Paris and Brussels on the occasion of the French budget still remains, the President of France Francois Hollande emphasized that, France will proceed with reforms for the benefit of the national interest and not to satisfy Berlin.
Further, he stated that: ” If we manage to place in order our fiscal system, we should do so, not because a number of punitive measures from abroad enforced us, but because it is in our own best interest”.
While the French President was asked about the figures provided by the OECD predicting growth of GDP in France by 3.7% in a 10-years time as long as the reforms that have been committed and announced in Paris are implemented, he answered that he takes into account “all this information with great caution, even though they impart meaning to what we do. ”
Finally, Francois Hollande concluded by stating that:” “It is an encouragement for continuing the reforms. what matters is not so much the reforms but the speed with which they are applied.”
