The powerful explosion which occurred at 03:40 in the morning of Cyprus and Kolokotronis Streets in Nea Erithrea shook the entire area and caused extensive damages.
The blast occurred on the ground floor of “La Scala” restaurant, in the storeroom, that was completely destroyed by the fire that broke out.
Damages were also reported to fifteen houses and shops and also to five cars and a motorcycle, which were parked outside the restaurant.
The fact that traces of destruction are visible within a 200 meters radius from the restaurant shows just how powerful the explosion was.
The fire was extinguished immediately by 15 firefighters, who rushed to the area with five vehicles. According to the information released, the explosion was caused by a propane leak in the restaurant.
However, the exact cause will be determined by the Fire Investigations Department after a proper investigation is completed.
