August Full Moon at Monuments, Museums, and Archaeological Sites

The Ministry of Culture is opening dozens of archaeological sites to the public on Monday, August 19

The Ministry of Culture will once again host the August Full Moon events, coordinated by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage. They are offering free entry to selected archaeological sites, monuments, historical places, and museums on the night of the full moon, Monday, August 19, 2024.

According to a related announcement from the Ministry, more than one hundred archaeological sites, historical places, museums, and monuments across the country will welcome the public under the moonlight. Events will be held at over fifty archaeological sites and museums, with an equal number remaining open to the public with free entry.

Event Details

This year’s event will be accompanied by activities taking place from August 9 to 25, as outlined in the posted program. The program includes theater and music performances, stargazing, storytelling, and guided tours. These events are organized by the services of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage and the General Directorate of Restoration, Museums, and Technical Works, many in collaboration with local authorities and local associations. The Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki, as well as the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, will also host events as part of the festivities.
