A black stork, an endangered species, was recently spotted at the Acheron Delta. Black storks are different species from the more common white stork and are elusive. They fly long distances, spending summers in Central and Northern Europe and Eastern Asia and wintering in Africa and India. They are extremely rare. In Greece, they are usually found in Thrace, Macedonia, Epirus, Lesbos and Northern Thessaly. Employees of the Management Agency of the Acheron Delta were extremely surprised when the spotted a black stork together with a spoonbill and white stork.
