SYRIZA: Dramatic developments as 87 members resign: “We do not legitimize decisions that degrade us and our party”

They claim financial transparency is lacking within the party - "Iliopoulos' resignation was for ulterior motives - Media workers remain unpaid

Newsroom August 22 05:32

The group of 87 members has resigned from the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA.

Eight members of the Political Secretariat, including Olga Gerovasili, Alekos Flambouraris, Katerina Notopoulou, Thanassis Theocharopoulos, Giannis Ragkousis, Kostas Zachariadis, Zoi Karkoulia, and Eleni Simeonidou, have expressed their opposition to the presidential proposal regarding the party’s media outlets and will leave the meeting today, according to reports. They stated, “We do not legitimize the process.”

The statement from the 87 members is as follows:

“We do not legitimize procedures, behaviors, and decisions that degrade both ourselves as individuals and our Party.

On the sole topic of the agenda concerning the SYRIZA-PS media, no proposal was made by the President, nor was any viability proposal provided. Furthermore, there continues to be a lack of transparency from members of the Political Secretariat regarding the party’s finances, despite increased expenses over the past year.

Despite the President’s commitment to provide details on the number of employees, salaries, and hiring timelines for the party, media outlets, and the Poulantzas Institute, no such information was given today. No updates or data were provided to the responsible party body, which should have been done according to the party’s regulations. The refusal to provide financial details to the Political Secretariat raises concerns about the rules being imposed in the New SYRIZA, which do not reflect leftist values.

While SYRIZA-PS media employees remain unpaid, the party leadership requests a blank check without presenting a proposal.

We cannot legitimize these tactics and decisions without a proposal from SYRIZA-PS leadership, and without respect for the party’s statutes and core principles.”
