Panathinaikos Strengthens Midfield: Ounahi’s Transfer Is Official

The agreement was completed yesterday afternoon, with Panathinaikos signing the player on loan for the season and paying a loan fee of 500,000 euros

Newsroom September 4 12:45

Shortly after Azzedine Ounahi arrived in Greece via private flight, Panathinaikos officially announced the completion of the transfer. The agreement sees Panathinaikos taking the player on loan for the current season, paying €500,000 in rent, as well as covering his full salary. Additionally, the “Greens” have the option to buy the player at the end of the season, with a purchase clause set at €11.5 million.

After completing the formalities of his transfer, the 24-year-old midfielder traveled to Morocco to join his national team duties.

Panathinaikos’ Official Announcement:

“PAE Panathinaikos announces the loan, with a purchase option, of Azzedine Ounahi from Marseille! The 24-year-old Moroccan international midfielder will strengthen the team, including for the European Conference League matches.

Azzedine was born on April 19, 2000, in Casablanca, Morocco. He began his football journey at the Raja Casablanca Academy at the age of 10 and later moved to the Mohammed VI Academy.

In 2018, he moved to France to join Strasbourg, initially playing for their second team. In 2020, he was loaned to Avranches in the French third division, where he played as a starter for the entire season. In the summer of 2021, Ounahi’s career took a major turn as he signed with Angers. He made a dream debut in Ligue 1, scoring against Lyon.

His performances at Angers earned him a call-up to the Morocco national team. Thanks to his outstanding displays during the 2022 World Cup, where he played as a starter in every game up to the semifinals, Ounahi secured a transfer to Marseille in January 2023. He scored on his debut for the French club but struggled to find a consistent starting role. Last season, he played in most of Marseille’s matches, reaching the Europa League semifinals after being knocked out of the Champions League—ironically by Panathinaikos.

Ounahi remains an active member of the Morocco national team, with 30 appearances and 5 goals to his name.

We welcome Azzedine to the Panathinaikos family.”
