Firefighters are battling the fire for a second 24-hour period after a fire broke out in Stimanga, Corinth.

This morning a new alarm was raised in the Xylokastro area, as a new message was sent by 112 to the residents of the village Pyrgos, where the fire is still raging.

The Civil Protection advised citizens to move away to Lygia because of the fire.

A short while ago a new 112 message was sent for the areas of Chelydoreo and Zaholi.

They went to save their friend and were surrounded by the flames

The fire broke out yesterday, Sunday morning, in a forested area with dense vegetation in Rozena, Xylokastro, Corinthia, while an order was given for the urgent evacuation of residents from six villages.

Tragic details have emerged regarding two men, aged 35 and 40, who lost their lives when they were surrounded by the fire near the village of Elliniko in Xylokastro. This happened on Sunday night as they were trying to reach a friend’s barn.

According to what the Deputy Governor of Corinth, Anastasios Giolis, said on Action 24, one of the two men was a father of three, while the other was expecting his third child in a few months.

“They were exceptional people, with a love for their fellow villagers, who rushed to help,” added Mr. Giolis, who hails from the same village as the two unfortunate men.
