Famellos: The new judicial map shows the inadequacy of the government

"The government's sloppiness creates a deadlock in the courts, inconvenience for everyone and costs for citizens" said the SYRIZA presidential candidate

Newsroom September 30 05:30

“Under the guise of communicative management, Mr. Mitsotakis and Mr. Florides are exacerbating significant issues in the administration of justice in a country already facing strong criticism from Europe regarding the rule of law,” stated Socrates Famellos, SYRIZA-PS presidential candidate and MP for Thessaloniki, following his meeting with Dimitris Vervesos, President of the IBA and the Plenary of the Greek Bar Associations.

Famellos criticized the government’s handling of the new judicial charter, emphasizing that it is causing deadlock in the courts, inconveniencing citizens, and increasing costs. “The government’s focus is not on strengthening the judiciary but on creating impressions,” he remarked.

He further explained that the implementation of the judicial charter has introduced serious problems due to the government’s shortcomings. Despite the law being passed in April, key steps have not been taken, leading to widespread inconvenience for citizens, businesses, judges, and lawyers. This inefficiency is not only increasing costs for the public but, more importantly, undermining legal certainty.

Famellos highlighted the government’s failure to provide the necessary training for judges and adapt the electronic systems for filing pleadings, issuing solvency certificates, and electronically recording minutes. He also pointed to unresolved issues in case distribution in Attica, courtroom information, and the issuance of pre-collection letters.

Calling for immediate action, Famellos urged the government to implement necessary transitional provisions and prioritize resolving critical issues, such as the electronic issuance of certificates for inheritance and property matters, pre-collection letters, and the proper distribution of cases to the new courts in Attica.
