A tragic incident occurred tonight in Glyfada when Panathinaikos footballer George Baldock was found unconscious in the pool of his home. Shortly afterward, his death was confirmed by a doctor from the mobile EKAV unit from Voula, who had been called by the villa’s owner.

According to information from protothema.gr, Baldock’s wife, who is currently in England, had been trying to reach him for hours. Unable to contact him, she asked the villa’s owner to check on him. The owner went to the residence and found the 31-year-old player unconscious in the pool. At 10:29 PM, he immediately notified EKAV, which arrived at the scene at 10:38 PM.

EKAV waited for police to investigate the circumstances, as protocol requires when a death occurs in a private home. A forensic examiner was summoned to the scene, while officers from the Hellenic Police are reviewing security footage from the house and interviewing neighbors.

Initial reports suggest that no one heard anything, and there were no signs of disturbance or noise.

The international footballer was in Athens as he had not been included in the national squad for the match against England at Wembley. His body showed no signs of injury, wounds, or bruises. When EKAV arrived, the police had already retrieved Baldock’s body from the bottom of the pool, where he was found wearing his swimsuit.

Outside Baldock’s home, Panathinaikos staff, including football director Giorgos Tzavellas, team players, and operational director Spyros Vlachos, gathered in shock, unable to grasp the scale of the tragedy.
