Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni had a telephone conversation with newly elected United States President Donald Trump yesterday, Wednesday night.
According to a statement from the Italian government, “the conversation was an opportunity to reaffirm the firm alliance, strategic cooperation and the historic and deep friendship that have always linked Rome and Washington.”
“During the telephone conversation, Georgia Meloni and President-elect Donald Trump expressed their willingness to work in close coordination on all major international affairs, starting with the crisis in Ukraine and the Middle East, with the common goal of promoting security and stability, and in the context of relations with the European Union. Finally, they underlined their desire to continue on a path of further strengthening the already excellent bilateral relations – which are based on common values and principles – and agreed to remain in close contact,” the Italian government statement added.
