There are continuing developments in the thriller of the five dead infants in Amaliada, after the Homicide Department took over the investigation. As testimony began, Irini Mourtzoukou claimed she never threatened Panagiotis’ mother, denied involvement in a fraud ring, and unleashed a harsh accusation against her mother for what she has said publicly against her.
Speaking to MEGA, the 24-year-old categorically denied being involved in the death of Panagiotis: “If I wanted to hurt Panagiotakis, there were many days when I kept him alone. So I would have waited for Poppy to come out of the bathroom and said, “wait a minute because I’m hurting your child “? Are we going crazy now? If one sits down to think about it, that makes sense.”
Responding to her mother who has publicly denounced that she has messages “burning” her about the case, Irene Mourtzoukou attacked her with heavy-handed insults.
“She says I was making suicide attempts, that I was running away, that I was stealing benefits. She has said many things against me. This lady was reminded by someone that she made suicide attempts and her partner was a witness. She was roped into committing suicide. She was stealing benefits. We know that she had been involved with loan sharks who were beating her and had gone so far as to break into the house and beat me. She disappeared for a long time in Belgium. If we want to tell the truth…” she said.
“I’m a difficult child but if I open my mouth. Don’t blame someone if you’ve done the same thing yourself. We got beat up a lot! Her son was bloody! Isn’t that what she thinks about? Is she going out to blame Irene? Her son was beaten because the loan sharks were after her and she’d fled to Belgium. My poor brother, who is 17 years old, has been working in a building site since he was 9 to pay off my mother and hasn’t been to school a day. He doesn’t go to the army to pay off my mother and he doesn’t have a single euro in his pocket. I’m at my wits’ end! My brother getting beaten up and sleeping on the street? Doesn’t that hurt me? What can Poppy tell us?
The answer to the circuit
As for the accusations that were involved in a circuit that carried out scams, Irini Mourtzoukou said: “I had gone and reported it to the police. Something had been done with my cards, they had been taken away. I didn’t know if something had been done with my account, I was informed by the bank that I had to go over there and I told them that I had lost my card and how could I have any money in it. I was probably told I was a victim of fraud. I went to the police and filed a report. Whatever it is I have told the authorities. I won’t stay and deal with it.”
“What am I? The Hitler of the family?”
Asked if she had threatened her best man, Irene replied, “Was he afraid of me? What am I? The Hitler of the family? Do I have a revolver and chase them around the house? I was there for everyone and I still am even now, even if I don’t have good contacts.”
“I would never threaten the kids”
Irene denied that she threatened her best man Poppy’s children: “I’m not well, I hear things that have never happened. Not all the things they say about the depositions are not true. I never threatened Poppy, never in my life. I would never threaten the children. I can’t take any more of this. I’m not well. I don’t want anything else. What I had with Poppy was our fight. I never mentioned her children.”
“We both had our hands raised”
“The fights I had with Poppy, one or two of them, were because there were third parties. I never put her kids in the middle, they have no business. In the fights, we didn’t go to violence and knives, but we both had our hands raised,” he claimed.
Irene Mourtzoukou categorically denied that she had threatened Poppy, before and after her child’s death. “Should I threaten Poppy? No, never!” she said. Asked if Poppy has any incriminating evidence against her, Irene replied “I don’t think so, no. I haven’t shown anything like that. Poppy has seen that I was with Panagiotis.”
According to her, there was communication after Poppy’s testimony. “The only thing Poppy said was ‘Irene I haven’t said anything they’re saying,'” she said.
Panagiotis was “trying to breathe”
Irini Mourtzoukou has denied that she and her roommate, Poppy, argued one day before Panayiotis’ death and a short time before the child passed away.
Asked if the child was alive when they took him to the hospital, she said, “I’ve been saying it from the beginning, I can’t understand how a person leaves because I’m not a doctor. I do know that when I took Panagiotakis in my arms he was trying to breathe, he was shaking and vomiting.”
At the same time, he contradicted the woman who was driving the car when they took Panagiotis to the hospital, claiming that “she took me to change (he was soiled from vomiting) and get the child’s booklet.”
“Poppy was distraught,” she commented, claiming that both she and the child’s mother “sat for many hours at the police station and gave a statement after many days.”
“I told Poppy to tell it like it is. The girl went out looking for her child and now they are looking for everything together,” he said.
