About 53% of French people want the government of Prime Minister Michel Barnier to collapse as they are angry with the draft budget he has presented, according to an Ifop-Fiducial poll for Sud Radio released today.
The poll showed that 67% of respondents oppose the Barnier government’s budget, which aims to reduce France’s growing public debt with spending cuts and tax increases totalling €60 billion. 33% support the draft budget.
The French government could collapse before Christmas and possibly even next week if the opposition parties table a motion of impeachment, which Barnier is certain to lose, according to multiple sources.
An Elabe poll for BFM TV released yesterday, Wednesday, showed that 63 percent of respondents believe that if Barnier’s government collapses, French President Emmanuel Macron should also resign.
