Greek economy: KEPE’s five lists to keep it on its sustainable growth path

Sustainable growth requires strategic reforms to promote productivity, competitiveness, and human capital, says the Annual Report of the National Productivity Council of Greece

Newsroom November 28 03:39

“The Greek economy has made remarkable progress, but its sustained growth requires strategic reforms to promote productivity, competitiveness, and human capital,” KEPE stresses in its summary of the National Productivity Council of Greece’s Annual Report 2024.

As the Center for Planning and Economic Research points out:

Recent global crises, from the COVID-19 pandemic to geopolitical tensions in Ukraine and the Middle East, have taken a significant toll on European economies. Greece, with its long-standing structural weaknesses, faces additional difficulties. High public debt, low employment rates, the need to upgrade the skills of the workforce, and the cost of transition to a greener energy system are long-standing issues, while natural disasters such as fires and floods are straining public resources. Despite these difficulties, the Greek economy in 2023 showed signs of resilience, supported by prudent fiscal policies and modest productivity growth.
