An unknown figure on the “planet” of diplomacy but with significant experience in the justice and media fields is Kimberly Guilfoyle, the new U.S. ambassador nominated by Donald Trump.
Kimberly Guilfoyle: Her age and degrees
Senior US sources explain that Trump’s decision to pick the 55-year-old Guilfoyle rather than Greek-American congressman Gas Bilirakis, whose name had been floated for the job, was because the new US president’s team felt that any loss of control of the House of Representatives, a development that could potentially put obstacles in the way of Trump’s policies, should not be put at risk.
With a first degree from the University of California School of Fine Arts and a second degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law, Guilfoyle also met professionally with Kamala Harris when both were in the San Francisco district attorney’s office.
The rumors, however, say their relationship was not the best with her accusing the current U.S. vice president of not supporting her in her professional advancement and Harris claiming that “I respect her, she’s a good lawyer and I want to work with her.”
Guilfoyle received several awards in her four years in the DA’s office, including “District Attorney of the Month”.
In 2001 she made headlines when she successfully prosecuted two defendants whose dogs had mauled a woman to death in San Francisco.
It was during this time that she met her first husband, Gavin Newsome, who was elected mayor of San Francisco in 2003. The two even did a stunning photo shoot for Harper’s Bazaar magazine, which had described the couple as “the new Kennedys.”
FOX News
In 2006, along with her then-divorce from Newsome, Guilfoyle made the final professional transition from the justice field to that of media.
After getting a taste of television production for Court TV’s Both Sides and CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360°, Guilfoyle found herself on FOX News, initially for The Lineup, before finding herself in the position of co-host and eventually anchor on The Five.
In 2018, however, the new US ambassador to Greece faced allegations of sexual harassment by a former aide, with US media reporting that the case was settled with a $4 million payout to the complainant for not pursuing the case and with Guilfoyle’s firing.
Support for Trump and the relationship with his son
The first time Guilfoyle’s name was heard in politics was in 2016 when reports suggested she was one of the possible choices to become the first press secretary of Trump’s first presidential term in the White House. But at the time, Shawn Spicer was chosen, with the name of the new U.S. ambassador coming back into the spotlight with his removal.
The next step on the political stage for Guilfoyle was her involvement in the fundraising campaign for Trump’s candidacy in the 2020 election, and later in 2022, she was called to testify in the investigation into the January 6, 2021, Capitol Hill invasion as she allegedly helped raise money for organizers of the incidental march of Trump supporters.
In August 2020, he had even delivered a fiery six-minute speech at the Republican Party convention, accusing the Democratic Party of being “socialists” and arguing that an election of Biden would lead to the destruction of the United States.
It was during this time that he became close with Trump’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr, with whom she made her first joint appearances in speeches at American universities.
In 2022 she announced that she was engaged to Trump’s son, with whom, however, she is reported to have broken up despite appearing at the new US president’s side on the night of his election victory last November.
The New York Times notes, in fact, that the announcement of Guilfoyle’s placement came just 24 hours after reports that Donald Trump Jr. was in a relationship with influencer Bettina Anderson.
