Following the meeting, Mr. Provopoulos stated that: ” I explained to Mr. Tsipras ” The way that the Bank of Greece handled monetary policy, financial policy and liquidity provision, without any deplorable incidents”.
He admitted that the meeting took place “under good and calm circumstances” and declined to comment on the recent statements of the current governor of the Bank of Greece Yannis Stournaras to reduce market liquidity.
However, Mr. Provopoulos respondent to if he would proceed in such statements, he said meaningfully that: “I will not talk about what I would do, because it is theoretical. See how I reacted in the past.”
Earlier
Mr. Alexis Tsipras is holding a meeting with the former Governor of the Bank of Greece in his office in Parliament.
The meeting between the two men was not announced while the aims of the talk were not announced.
This has divided political analysts since some are characterizing the meeting as an indirect answer to current BoG director Yannis Stournaras to his statements about voting a President of the Republic. Others attribute it to the desire of the opposition leader to learn what early elections would mean for the financial system.
