Mimis Domazos was one of the greatest footballers in the history of Greek football

Mimis Domazos, the “general” of Greek football, who suffered a cardiac arrest outside a diagnostic center in Chalandri three days ago, breathed his last today, Friday.

Mimis Domazos, who died at the age of 83, fought a long battle for three 24-hours in the ICU of the Red Cross hospital.

He had been taken there without a pulse by the ambulance of the ambulance service that picked him up after his collapse in Chalandri.

Who was Mimis Domazos?

Mimis Domazos was one of the greatest footballers in the history of Greek football. He played for Panathinaikos from 1959 to 1978 and was a key member of the team that reached the 1971 Wembley final against Ajax.

With Panathinaikos, he won a total of 13 titles and served as the team’s captain for approximately 15 years. From 1978 to 1980, he played for AEK Athens, winning a league championship. In 1980, he returned to Panathinaikos to retire wearing their jersey.

Domazos recorded a total of 536 league appearances (with Panathinaikos and AEK), holding the all-time record for appearances in Greek football. Even after 45 years, he remains at the top of the list.

He represented Greece 50 times, scoring 4 goals, and served as captain for many years. His debut with the national team occurred on December 2, 1959, at Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium in a match against Denmark.
