Clashes erupt outside Heraklion courthouse as angry crowd attempts to storm the building (updated)

Serious clashes are unfolding outside the Heraklion courthouse in Crete as the couple accused of abusing a 3-year-old boy testifies.

Dimoglidu: Even Police Officers Are Shocked

Speaking about the case, Hellenic Police (ELAS) spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidu once again emphasized how deeply shaken the officers handling the investigation are.

“I don’t know if they have ever dealt with such an abused child at such a young age. The child has suffered severe abuse, and the evidence strongly suggests that someone is responsible,” Dimoglidu stated.

She further explained on Action24 that even doctors who are not forensic specialists could immediately tell that the numerous injuries on the child’s body could not have been caused by a fall or accident, as claimed by the accused.

Since Wednesday morning (Jan. 29), an enraged crowd has gathered outside the courthouse, attempting to storm the building to lynch the accused couple.

Police officers formed a “human barricade” at the entrance to block access, but tensions escalated. Protesters began hurling objects, resulting in a civilian sustaining a minor head injury.

The latest information on the health of 3-year-old Angelos, the boy who was abused by his mother and stepfather in Heraklion, was relayed Wednesday morning by the PAGNI.

According to Giorgos Chalkiadakis reported Tuesday night into Wednesday was quiet: “We are waiting to see if we have a point that makes us more optimistic. It’s a situation that hasn’t shown any change.”
