The Greek presence at the 27th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, which will be held from March 6 to 16, 2025, will be dynamic both in physical venues and online. A total of 73 feature and short documentaries from Greece will be showcased in the three main sections: International Competition, Newcomers, and Film Forward, as well as in the Open Horizons and Platform+ sections, and in Special Screenings.
The Festival continues its active support for Greek documentaries by paying rental fees for all Greek films participating in its program. The documentaries in the expanded Platform+ section will be available on the Festival’s digital platform from March 7 to 21, in order to reach a wider audience.
Personal stories, emotional journeys through time and the Greek landscape, cosmological events that marked modern Greece, tender portraits of gifted individuals who made their own mark in the arts, stories of women’s empowerment and emancipation, the loneliness of the urban metropolis, Greek landmarks that have gained mythological status, nostalgia and repatriation, and the complex branches of historical and collective memory are some of the themes that are at the heart of this year’s Greek documentaries.
The advisory committee responsible for pre-selecting the films for the 27th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival was composed of Angelos Kovotsos, director, Dimitris Pantsos, journalist, and Maria Tsagkari, visual artist and director.
