Mitsotakis: Citizen safety in public transport is a key pillar of our policy

The Prime Minister spoke about the pilot policing program for public transport in western Athens, which began implementation yesterday

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in a Facebook post, referred to the pilot policing program for public transport in western Athens, emphasizing that “the improvement of public transport is a non-negotiable priority for our government.”

Mr. Mitsotakis noted that “this improvement is not just about renewing our bus fleet, which is progressing smoothly, or increasing the frequency of routes,” but that “a key pillar of this effort is also the safety of citizens.”

He added that as of yesterday, the pilot policing program for public transport in western Athens has been launched, with 130 police officers, both in uniform and in plain clothes, patrolling the suburban railway and buses in the area.

“Once the pilot program is completed, this policy will be implemented across the entire transport network of Attica with a dedicated unit of the Hellenic Police. We have a duty to provide our fellow citizens with modern and safe public transport. Step by step, we are moving in this direction,” Mr. Mitsotakis stressed.
