SYRIZA calls for the resignation of Michalis Chrysochoidis

Koumoundourou blames him for the riots and claims that the police forces had clear orders to disperse the gathering

The Syriza party has attacked the Minister of Civil Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, blaming him for the incidents and asking him to resign.

In its statement, SYRIZA said, “The historic rallies of February 28 cannot be marred by the atrocities committed today by the ELAS on the orders of Mitsotakis – Chrysochoidis” and claimed that “the government of the Southwest is consciously violating the constitutional right of assembly today.”

He goes on to explain: “Young people who want to demonstrate peacefully with their hands up, demanding Truth and Justice are met with violence, tear gas and water breezes. Earlier, photojournalist Orestis Panagiotou and dozens of other citizens were wounded in the head by the use of violence during the magnificent rally in Syntagma Square.”

In conclusion, SYRIZA supports: “It is now obvious that the police forces had a clear order to disperse the gathering by any means and not to protect the citizens, as Mr. Chrysochoidis falsely claimed hypocritically last Wednesday. Let Mr. Chrysochoidis open the way for Mr. Mitsotakis by resigning first himself and then his client.”
